Biography

Charles Henri Ford was a multifaceted individual, whose creative endeavors as a poet, photographer, publisher, and charismatic bohemian socialite, spanned nearly a century, fostering close relationships and collaborations with numerous iconic intellectual and artistic figures, including Gertrude Stein and Andy Warhol.

Throughout his artistic journey, Ford's work was deeply rooted in the avant-garde movement, and as an openly queer individual, his life and art were at the forefront of mid-twentieth century sexual politics, much like his gay contemporaries, Allen Ginsburg and Kenneth Anger.

Ford's artistic expression seamlessly merged his outsider sexual status with the vibrant underground sensibility of the poets, painters, and filmmakers with whom he associated, ultimately becoming an integral part of the cultural landscape.
