Astrid Hadad is a renowned Mexican actress and performance artist. Born on January 4, 1957, in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, she initially attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, planning to major in political science and journalism before switching to theatre.
Her breakthrough came in 1985 with the all-female adaptation of Mozart's opera, Donna Giovanni, directed by Jesusa Rodríguez, which became a huge success in Europe and closed after its 500th performance in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
Astrid created two of her own shows, Nostalgia Arrabalera and Del Rancho a la Ciudad, leading to the production and starring role in the tragicomic musical La Occisa or Luz, Levántate y Lucha, based on the life of Mexican singer Lucha Reyes.
She has collaborated with the musical group Los Tarzanes, creating various performances, including La Mujer Ladrina, Apocalipsis Ranchero, La Mujer del Golfo, and others. Astrid has also appeared in TV soaps and the film Sólo con tu pareja.
Her Heavy Nopal show features iconic references, using her own body as a stage and altar, with calla lilies, complex outfits, and ornaments, earning her the nickname "a walking museum of popular cultures."
Pecadora, a comic show, focuses on women, using Mary Magdalene as a central theme, and Sol y Sombra explores the struggle between good and evil, using humor to reflect on inner ghosts and the joys of life.
