Person Biography:
Gibb was born in Greenock, Scotland. She studied drama and sociology at Glasgow University and then pursued a post-graduate teaching degree at Manchester Polytechnic before enrolling in an acting course at the Drama Studio London.
Before becoming a writer, Gibb acted regularly in theatre and television, with her most notable role being Deirdre, Calum Buchanan's girlfriend in All Creatures Great and Small. She recalled in 2016 that she never imagined herself as a writer and that her writing career "just happened, almost accidentally."
Gibb's writing career began after she moved to Liverpool to support her partner, who was made the associate director of the Everyman Theatre. She started writing while still acting in the North West, including at the Everyman, and was eventually shortlisted for The Dennis Potter Award for her screenplay Lucky Bag.
Gibb's notable screenplays include Golden Wedding, which won a Mental Health Media Award, Dear Frankie, and AfterLife. Both Dear Frankie and AfterLife were shot in her hometown of Greenock at the same time, and she has a small cameo role in Dear Frankie. Her work earned her several nominations and awards, including a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Newcomer, a BAFTA Scotland award for best Screenwriter, and a Scotland on Sunday/Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award.
Currently, Gibb is in development with several high-profile projects, including adaptations of Swallows and Amazons for BBC Films, Vikram Seth's An Equal Music for Cuba Pictures, Rose Tremain's The Road Home for BBC 2, and Andrea Gillies's Keeper for BBC1.
