Alun Armstrong is a remarkably prolific English character actor, boasting an impressive array of roles throughout his extensive career.
Born and raised in County Durham, North East England, Armstrong's early interest in acting was sparked by Shakespeare productions at his grammar school. This passion would ultimately guide him towards a successful career spanning over five decades, with his words describing his acting style as "the full spectrum of characters from the grotesque to musicals... I always play very colourful characters, often a bit crazy, despotic, psychotic."
Throughout his illustrious career, Armstrong has amassed an impressive array of credits, including no less than six different Dickens adaptations and a remarkable seven series as the eccentric ex-detective Brian Lane in the popular television show New Tricks.
In addition to his numerous television and film credits, Armstrong is also a highly accomplished stage actor, having spent nine years with the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company.
