Jean Valjean, a man who stole bread for his destitute family, faces redemption after being arrested and repeatedly pursued by the relentless lawman Javert.

The story follows Jean Valjean, a former prisoner who is pursued by the relentless lawman Javert. After becoming the mayor of a small town, Valjean takes in a dying woman's daughter, Cosette, and promises to raise her. As Cosette grows up, she falls in love with Marius, a student. Their romance is set against the backdrop of a student-led revolution, culminating in a dramatic climax.
