Alonso Ruizpalacios, a Mexican film director born in 1978, was raised in Mexico City. He pursued stage directing studies in his hometown before relocating to London, where he honed his acting skills at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
With a dual talent for writing and directing, Ruizpalacios has worked on both stage and screen projects. His short film, Café Paraíso, garnered numerous accolades on the film festival circuit. His debut feature, Gueros, a black-and-white production, received widespread critical acclaim and won five Ariel Awards in 2015, including Best Picture, Best First Film, and Best Director.
In addition to his work in film, Ruizpalacios has also directed music videos, including the acclaimed clip for Natalia Lafourcade's song "Hasta la Raíz". His latest feature, Museo, starring Gael García Bernal, won the best script award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film has also been featured at various international festivals and tells the captivating story of the 1985 robbery at Mexico City's National Museum of Anthropology.
Ruizpalacios has also made significant contributions to television, directing episodes for popular series such as Narcos: Mexico and Aquí en la tierra. Furthermore, he served as the showrunner for the Mexican television network Once Tv's XY series.
