Alan Cassell, born in 1932, was a renowned Australian actor, with a diverse range of film and television credits to his name. As one of the actors who worked with Bruce Beresford on his early Australian films, Cassell's career spanned multiple decades and numerous projects.
Throughout his illustrious career, Cassell appeared in a wide variety of films, including Money Movers, Cathy's Child, for which he received a nomination for "Best Actor", Squizzy Taylor, Breaker Morant, Puberty Blues, and The Club. His more recent film credits include The Honorable Wally Norman and Strange Bedfellows.
In addition to his film work, Cassell also had a successful television career, appearing in numerous shows such as Taurus Rising, Special Squad, The Flying Doctors, The Power, The Passion, Blue Heelers, SeaChange, Stingers, and MDA.
Prior to his work in film and television, Cassell began his acting career in Western Australia, where he honed his craft as a stage actor. He won "Best Actor of the Year" for his role in "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg" and later worked with the Sydney Theatre Company and the Melbourne Theatre Company. Cassell was also part of the original cast of "Away", which toured to New York, and appeared alongside Lauren Bacall in "Sweet Bird of Youth" for the Sydney Theatre Company.
