In the late 1970s, a rebellious Australian teenager named Sue navigates a world where conforming to societal norms is the norm. She spends her days watching the popular surfing boys and engaging in casual relationships with them. The girls in her social circle are bound by peculiar customs, such as avoiding interactions with boys when they're using the bathroom or eating. Those deemed "ugly" are forced to choose between being bitter and resentful or compromising their values for social acceptance. The afternoons are filled with beach parties, car stints, and solo gatherings where sex and drinking dominate the scene. Amidst the chaos, parents and educators struggle to guide the youth towards a more responsible path.
