Dragonwyck background

Dragonwyck

A naive Connecticut farm girl is invited by a distant relative, a wealthy aristocrat, to become the governess of his young daughter in his lavish Hudson Valley estate.

Abigail Wells receives a request from her distant cousin Nicholas Van Ryn, a wealthy landowner, to send their daughter Miranda to be a companion to his daughter Katrine at his Hudson Valley manor, Dragonwyck. Despite their poverty, the Wells reluctantly agree, as Miranda has wanderlust. Upon arrival, Miranda catches the eye of young physician Dr. Jeff Turner, which doesn't sit well with Nicholas, who is opposed to tenant-farmer rights and has a complicated relationship with his family. As Miranda navigates the strange dynamics at the manor, she becomes entangled in long-held secrets and changing times, all while Nicholas' goal as a father hangs in the balance.
