A high-schooler named Kimihiro Watanuki struggles with monsters and spirits that are magically drawn to him, but nobody else can see them except him. One day, Watanuki stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, where he encounters Yuko Ichihara—an enchanting witch seemingly all-knowing. Yuko quickly realizes Watanuki's hard work ethic and offers to grant his wish: not being able to see those bothersome monsters and spirits any longer. However, there is a price. Yuko notices that Watanuki would be useful for housework and other chores she wishes him to do until he works off enough power to pay for the spell's cost.
