Chise Hatori is 15 years old. She experiences inexplicable encounters with otherworldly creatures and becomes a magnet for them. This leads to her life being destroyed, as well as those closest to her—her only source of comfort are vanishing one by one. Desperate for help, Chise decides to sell her soul to someone who will take her in, believing it might save her from further loss. She meets Elias, who offers her a chance at stability and growth. Initially, she lives in a cozy home where she learns that it is everything she has ever desired, but the reality of the situation slowly unfolds as Chise begins to understand the world she fears most, one that once ruined her life and took away what matters to her. Chise becomes Elias’ apprentice, becoming a respected mage. As a mage, she will now have to explore a new world she has grown afraid of, confronting the darkness that led to her suffering.
