A cunning gangster, Bert Galvin, is sent to a Florida prison farm after killing an enemy in Miami. He soon learns about the "trustee" system, where guards are rewarded with freedom if they shoot escaping prisoners. Galvin becomes a trustee through bribery and hatches an escape plan, using a bribe to send a desperate prisoner into the woods. However, Galvin shoots the prisoner before he can escape and claims his freedom. But a determined sheriff is hot on his trail, determined to bring him to justice.
