In occupied France during World War II, an American pilot named John is forced to make an emergency landing and is taken in by the French Resistance at a convent. Clothilde, a young novice, takes a liking to John and decides to help him escape to England. To facilitate his escape, John pretends to be the husband of Madame Bouchard, a woman from a nearby village.
