In 1889, a German philosopher named Friedrich Nietzsche witnessed the whipping of a horse in Turin, Italy, and his life was forever changed. This film tells a fictionalized story of what happened to the horse, which was old and in poor health, and its master, a rural farmer who relied on the horse to make a living.
