The 1940 film serial "The Shadow" was a Columbia Pictures production, the 9th in their series. It was based on stories from "The Shadow Magazine" and featured Lamont Cranston, a criminologist and scientist, as the true identity of The Shadow. The serial mixed elements from the radio and pulp magazine versions, ignoring the hypnotic invisibility of the radio character. The villain, The Black Tiger, was an invisible man who used his powers to commit crimes and wreak havoc on the city. The Shadow, with the help of Police Commissioner Weston and a group of solid citizen businessmen, worked to uncover The Black Tiger's identity and put an end to his evil plans.
