King Eric VIII is dominated by his humorless queen, Martha, who prioritizes royal duty above all else. However, their daughter Princess Anne defies her mother's wishes by falling in love with the king's secretary, Freddie Granton. When the queen leaves for a trip to America, a revolution erupts and the palace is bombed. The king agrees to meet with the revolution's leader and, after hearing his cause, promises to oust the powerful Premier Northrup in exchange for the revolutionaries laying down their arms.
