The Pied Piper background

The Pied Piper

The Pied Piper exacts a surprising revenge on the people of Hamelin Town after they fail to pay him in gold as promised, leading him to enchant the town's children to follow him to a mystical haven in the mountains.

A mysterious piper arrives in Hamelin, promising to rid the town of its overwhelming rat infestation for a hefty sum of gold. He successfully lures the rats into a trap, but instead of receiving the full payment, the townsfolk are dismayed to find that all he did was play a tune. The piper, outraged, retaliates by playing a new melody that inexplicably draws the town's children, including a pair of twins about to be born, into his thrall.
