In the pre-Civil War era, Bull McQuade seeks to prevent Kansas from becoming a free state, maintaining control over the outlaw haven of Tiburon. Among the wanted men is Bill Hickok, who finds himself pursued by Marshal Tex Martin. After Hickok saves Tex's life, the two form an unlikely alliance and return to Tiburon to apprehend McQuade and his gang.
