Luke Darcy, a rebel leader in Kansas, dreams of creating an independent Republic of Kansas, using his vigilante group, The Jayhawkers, to end slavery by force. However, his actions become self-serving as he seeks absolute control of Kansas, causing tension with the military governor, William Clayton, who wants him captured and brought to justice. Clayton hires Cam Bleeker, a former rebel, to infiltrate The Jayhawkers and capture Darcy, driven by a personal vendetta: Darcy was responsible for Bleeker's wife's death while Bleeker was in prison.
