In the 17th century, a cowardly nobleman, Sir Simon of Canterville, takes refuge in his family's castle after fleeing a duel. His ashamed father condemns him to eternal life as a ghost, hoping that one of his descendants will redeem the family's honor by performing a brave deed. Centuries later, Sir Simon finds a glimmer of hope when he meets Cuffy Williams, an American relative stationed at the castle with his troops during World War II.
