Mary Blake, a singer, arrives at Blackie Norton's Paradise gambling hall and beer garden looking for work, but is initially embarrassed by his behavior. Despite this, she is hired and becomes a star performer. However, she is eventually courted by Nob Hill Socialite Jack Burley and Maestro Baldini, who offer her a chance to perform opera. Mary is torn between her contract with Blackie and her newfound opportunities, ultimately deciding to leave for the Tivoli Opera House.
