In the scorching Sahara desert, a U.S. Army sergeant named Joe Gunn commands his tank to flee the fallen city of Tobruk in June 1942, seeking to escape Rommel's advancing forces and reach Allied lines. As he journeys on, Gunn rescues a handful of Allied soldiers, but their supplies dwindle, particularly water. Their luck changes when they stumble upon an ancient well, only to discover it's also the target of a German battalion. Undeterred by the overwhelming odds, Gunn resolves to defend the well at all costs.
