Murphy seeks justice against the villains who killed his friend, the sheriff, and kidnapped a young local girl. As he tracks them down, he's initially joined by a group of townspeople, but they gradually lose their courage, leaving only a timid banker named Saxon to stand by his side. When they finally locate the girl, who has been mistreated by her captors, Murphy shows compassion and understanding, while the others are overcome with disgust.
