Gene Autry returns to his hometown of Torpedo as a guest of honor at the Frontier Days Celebration, only to find his childhood enemies, the Wildhack brothers, now local gangsters. They own a saloon next to the school and Gene's protests against their dangerous behavior lead to a brutal beating. Humiliated, Gene decides to stay in Torpedo and get back in shape. He encourages Gene to remain in Torpedo and get into shape again.
