On the eastern borders of West Germany, a lonely repairman named Bruno witnesses a VW beetle crash into the River Elbe. The driver, Robert, joins Bruno in his van, and an unlikely friendship forms as they travel through the German countryside, visiting old movie theaters and getting to know each other.
Kings of the Road
A lone projectionist traverses the Western German countryside, repairing worn cinema equipment along the East-German border. Along the way, he befriends a troubled young man reeling from a recent divorce, and together they embark on a journey of self-discovery.
