Wrongfully-convicted James Lake escapes from prison and is picked up by wealthy Leslie Whitlock, who has a plan to murder his wife to inherit her wealth. Whitlock offers Lake $10,000 to kill his wife, but Lake refuses, fearing he'll be caught. Whitlock blackmailed Lake into accepting the contract, threatening to turn him in to the police.
