Detective Landers investigates a murder at a seedy Los Angeles hotel, despite being unable to officially take on the case. He heads to the upscale Glorietta Springs Hotel, where a suspect was found, and meets the bartender Andy and cigarette girl Jo Ann Marlowe. Following a tip, Landers discovers a piece of telephone wire leading to Andy's room and uncovers a web of secrets and complications, including Andy's medical discharge from the Navy due to diabetes.
