Twenty years after retiring, Ben Cutler joins a posse to catch bank robbers, then takes over as Marshal after the previous one is killed. However, his efforts to bring the killer to justice are met with resistance from the townsfolk, who sympathize with the boy, Eddie "The Kid" Campbell, who grew up in the town and has a troubled past.
