In the small town of Niederkaltenkirchen, a school principal is found dead on the train tracks with a threatening message "Die, you pig!" scrawled on his home wall. Local policeman Franz Eberhofer is tasked with solving the murder, which is a welcome change from the monotony of his daily routine. He's aided by his former detective partner Rudi Birkenberger, now a department-store detective. The case becomes more complicated when a second body is discovered, linked to the victim's shady dealings. Meanwhile, Franz's personal life is in disarray as his girlfriend is having an affair, and he suspects the lover is the son of his estranged brother, who is supposed to be watching their children.
