Tex enters the town posing as a tramp, while the others join a troupe of minstrels. Tex's father, Captain John Wyatt, takes a leave of absence and runs for Land Commissioner after meeting wealthy landholder Henry Colby, who blames the "nesters" for the lawlessness.
