Letty, a young mother who grew up on the streets, teaches her son Mickey to be street-smart to protect him from exploitation. When Mickey is hit by a truck driven by Mal, Letty concocts a scheme to take advantage of his wealth. However, her plan is exposed, and Mickey is taken from her. Mal and his wife Alice, unable to have children, adopt Mickey and give him a loving home. Letty becomes jealous of their relationship and plots to blackmail Mal, but her plans are foiled when Mal tells Alice about their affair.
