A steel magnate, crippled by a rival's sabotage, sets out on a journey to reclaim his factory by rallying a community of homeless individuals.

A steel-mill owner, John Dawson, suffers a devastating accident that claims his legs and his company, orchestrated by his corrupt secretary/treasurer, Jim Marley. Dawson forms an unlikely alliance with a blind peddler, Marchant, and assumes a new identity as he travels the country, uniting beggars, peddlers, and the disabled into a thriving collective.
