An American Tragedy

A working-class man's life is turned upside down when his secret past catches up with him, threatening to ruin his chance at happiness with a wealthy love interest.

Clyde Griffiths, a young adult from a poor missionary family, aspires to a life of luxury and begins to make his way by working at a high-end hotel and later at his uncle's factory. He starts an affair with Roberta Alden, a colleague, but soon falls in love with Sondra Finchley, a high-society woman, and contemplates murder when she becomes pregnant with Roberta's child.
