Two poor English sisters, Agnes and Ellen Isit, inherit a wealthy estate in Naples from their uncle, complete with a lavish villa and a charming Italian majordomo, Salvatore. Salvatore uses his charm to seduce Agnes, transforming her from a prim spinster to a passionate lover. However, after marrying Agnes, Salvatore's behavior becomes increasingly thoughtless, causing Ellen to worry about her sister's well-being. As Agnes's health begins to decline, she seeks help from Dr. Ben Dench, a family friend.
