The USS Voyager, pursuing a group of Maquis rebels, ventures into the treacherous Badlands nebula. Both ships are unexpectedly transported to the Delta Quadrant, 75,000 light-years from Federation space. The crew and Maquis form an uneasy alliance to rescue their captured crew members from the dying Caretaker, who built the space probe. The Maquis ship is destroyed in a battle with the hostile Kazons. Voyager destroys the space probe to prevent Kazon aggression on a defenseless planet. Without the probe, it will take 75 years for Voyager to return to Federation space. The Federation and Maquis crews unite on Voyager, setting out on a new mission to boldly go home.
