On Armistice Day, 1918, a detective is questioning Mrs. Gubbins about William Foster, a friend of her stepson Jimmy, who both perished in action during the Great War.

On Armistice Day, 1918, an investigator questions Mrs. Gubbins about William Foster, a friend of her stepson Jimmie, who are both listed as killed in action. However, Jimmie, along with Bill "Jones" and another man with amnesia, appears alive, despite being recorded as dead. Jimmie's mother is shocked to see him alive, having spent death benefits, but is thrilled to see Bill, for whom there is a large reward. The mysterious third man, "Spoofy", has the ability to steal anything, leading to trouble for everyone.
