On June 14th, 1940, as German troops enter Paris, a condemned murderer named Clement is about to be executed by guillotine. During a bombing raid, the prison walls are damaged, and Clement escapes by joining a column of civilian refugees fleeing south. He assumes the identity of a dead French Army Sergeant, Sergeant Maurice Lafarge, and joins other French soldiers retreating to unoccupied southern France. Clement decides to sail to French Equatorial Africa to join the Free French Forces, hoping to escape and start anew.
The Impostor
A former convict assumes the identity of a fallen soldier and finds himself fighting heroically in Africa during World War 2, only to have his past misdeeds ultimately catch up with him.
