In a poignant tale, a Japanese soldier, Mizushima, is sent to convince a group of Japanese troops in Burma to surrender, but they refuse, opting to die with honor. Haunted by the experience, Mizushima renounces his military life and becomes a Buddhist monk, dedicating himself to burying the remains of fallen Japanese soldiers.
