Two women, Marlene and Sofia, meet by chance in a New York City movie theater and decide to set up their respective daughters, Mia and Tony, on a date. Mia is a literature professor going through a divorce due to her husband's drinking issues, while Tony is a lounge singer who's commitment-phobic after a past heartbreak. As Marlene and Sofia work to bring the couple together, Mia and Tony form a connection, but their budding relationship is threatened by Mia's preteen daughter, Rosie, who wants her parents to reunite.
