Disappearances background

Disappearances

A rugged father-son duo embark on a perilous journey through the wilderness, risking everything to smuggle whiskey and save their family from financial ruin.

In 1932, a devastating fire ravages a Vermont family's hay, forcing them to sell some of their cattle to survive. Quebec Bill, who has a troubled past in the whiskey trade, sees this as an opportunity to make a profit and convinces his family to join him. Despite initial reservations, they cross the border into Canada, where whiskey is legal, and partner with two monks to store their haul. However, the group soon finds themselves stealing from rival whiskey sellers and resorting to violence.
