Two "blood" brothers, Alan and Britt Johnson, leave Carolina in the 1860s to start a new life in Texas. They homestead on the West Texas frontier with other pioneer families. However, when the Civil War breaks out, Indian tribes join forces to drive out the white settlers. In a surprise raid, the Indians take hostage all the women and children. Britt, being black, is chosen to negotiate with the Indians for their return and embarks on a dangerous journey into hostile territory. He earns the respect of the Kiowa chief, Lone Wolf, and is named "Black Fox." But will his bravery be enough to bring the hostages home?
