Yuki Tanada, a Japanese film director and screenwriter, was born on August 12, 1975, in Fukuoka Prefecture. Prior to pursuing a career in filmmaking, Tanada developed a passion for theater in high school. She then enrolled in the esteemed Image Forum Institute of the Moving Image to hone her skills in the art of filmmaking.
Tanada's independently produced film, Moru, garnered significant attention and acclaim, winning the grand prize at the 2001 Pia Film Festival. Her subsequent work, Takada Wataru: A Japanese Original, a documentary about a renowned Japanese folk singer, was featured at the 2003 Tokyo International Film Festival.
The director's 2008 film, One Million Yen Girl, earned her the prestigious Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. Tanada has also demonstrated her versatility as a screenwriter, penning scripts for many of her own films, as well as contributing to Mika Ninagawa's Sakuran.
