William McGregor is a writer and director with a strong affinity for using landscape and character-driven storytelling to weave captivating narratives. Born and raised in rural Norfolk, England, McGregor's creative journey began at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham, England, where he pursued a Foundation Degree in Art and Design before transitioning to a BA in Digital Film and Screen Arts.
During his first year as a student, McGregor created the short film Who's Afraid of the Water Sprite? (2009),which went on to win an impressive 10 international awards, including the prestigious Royal Television Award for Best Drama. The film's success was so profound that the Cambridge University Film Festival was subsequently renamed the Water Sprite Film Festival in its honor. The Royal Television Society proclaimed the short as "the best student film we have ever seen."
McGregor continued to hone his craft, producing two graduation films in 2010: Bovine (2010),a 35mm short film that explores the life of a young boy on a farm and premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival, and The Little (2010),a dark fantasy that won the-Cola Cin Cocaemagic Innovation Award and screened at numerous festivals worldwide.
Following his graduation, McGregor signed with Independent Talent for representation in film and television. In 2011, he created the short film No Escape (2011) for the London Sci-Fi 48-hour film challenge, which led to his signing with The Mill [gb] as a commercials director.
McGregor's feature film debut, Gwen (2018),premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and earned him a spot with CAA in 2018.
