Volli Käro, a renowned Estonian actor, was born on December 13, 1940, in Kirov Oblast, Russia, to Estonian parents Fidrik and Erika Käro, who had been resettled in the area as part of the Stolypin reform.
Growing up, Volli was one of eight siblings, and his family's life was marked by frequent moves due to his father's work. Tragedy struck when Volli was just ten years old, as his father passed away, leaving the family in a precarious financial situation.
Despite these challenges, Volli's family managed to return to Estonia when he was just four years old, settling in Loksa and Vihula. He attended schools in Väike-Maarja before his father's untimely death, and afterward, the family moved several more times.
Volli's early life was marked by hard work, as he had to support his family after completing primary school. He worked on a collective farm, a stark contrast to his future career as a renowned actor.
However, his life took a dramatic turn when he went on a school trip to Tallinn and watched Estonian ballerina Helmi Puur perform in Swan Lake. This experience ignited his passion for theatre, and he began taking dance lessons.
After graduating from secondary school in 1960, Volli started working at the Väike-Maarja cultural centre as an artistic instructor, rising through the ranks to become the director.
Despite his success, Volli's dream of becoming a professional actor was initially thwarted when he was rejected from the Estonian SSR State Institute of Music and Theatre in 1964. However, this setback did not deter him, and he continued to pursue his passion for theatre.
Volli Käro is married to stage actress Viive Käro (née Aamisepp),and they reside in Rakvere, with a summer home in Kärdla on the island of Hiiumaa. His son Allan Käro is a historian, and his first cousin, once removed, is actor Kirill Käro.
Throughout his illustrious career, Volli Käro has become synonymous with the Rakvere Theatre in Lääne-Viru County, Estonia, where he has had a long and distinguished engagement as a stage actor. He has also appeared in several film and television roles, cementing his status as a beloved and respected figure in Estonian theatre.
