Ticky Holgado, born Joseph Holgado, was a French actor renowned for his collaborations with Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Born on June 24, 1944, in Toulouse, France, he began his acting career with a significant role in Delicatessen (1991),a film directed by Jeunet and Marc Caro.
Prior to his breakthrough in Delicatessen, Holgado had already appeared in Une époque formidable (1990),where he played the character of a beggar who meets the protagonist, NFA, played by Gérard Jugnot. His performance earned him critical acclaim and recognition in the French film industry.
In 1992, Holgado received the prestigious Caesar award for Best Male Bit Part for his role in Une époque formidable. He went on to receive the same award again in 1996 for his performance in Gazon maudit.
However, Holgado's health began to decline in the early 2000s, and he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2000. Despite undergoing treatment, his cancer continued to progress, and he was forced to reduce his acting appearances significantly.
In September 2003, Holgado announced that his cancer was in remission, but unfortunately, the disease returned, and he succumbed to it on January 22, 2004. Before his passing, Holgado had begun working on a new film with renowned director Lelouch.
As a final message to his fans and the public, Holgado left a poignant document on his hospital bed, urging people to quit smoking, saying, "It is necessary to tell people that it's absolutely necessary to stop smoking."
