Thorsten Fleisch, a German artist, was born in Koblenz in 1972. As a school student, he began experimenting with filmmaking using his father's Super 8 camera. He later pursued a formal education in experimental film at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, where he studied under the guidance of renowned filmmaker Peter Kubelka.
Throughout his career, Fleisch has worked with a variety of unconventional materials, including the human body, crystals, fire, and electricity. His innovative approach has resulted in the creation of abstract visual systems that explore themes of catharsis, the cosmos, and the universe.
One of Fleisch's most notable works is his computer-animated film Gestalt, which earned him an Honorary Mention at the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, in 2003. His subsequent work, Energie!, has received international acclaim for its use of high-voltage techniques.
Fleisch has also collaborated with a range of prominent artists and brands, including Gaspar Noé, Red Bull, and Basement Jaxx. His films have been showcased at numerous international festivals, including the New York Film Festival, Ars Electronica, Transmediale, Ottawa International Animation Festival, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and San Francisco International Film Festival.
Currently, Fleisch resides and works in Berlin, where he continues to push the boundaries of his craft and explore new ways to express himself through film.
