Taina Elg is a Finnish-American actress and dancer, born on March 9, 1930, in Helsinki, Finland. Raised in Turku by her parents, Helena Dobroumova, a woman of Russian descent, and Åke Elg, a pianist, she began her career in the entertainment industry.
Elg's accomplishments in the industry are numerous. In 1957, she won the Golden Globe for the Foreign Newcomer Award - Female, a prestigious honor that recognized her outstanding talent. The following year, she received another Golden Globe, this time for Best Motion Picture Actress - Musical/Comedy, for her role in Les Girls. Notably, she tied with her co-star Kay Kendall for this award.
Elg's success did not stop there. In 1958, she was nominated for a Golden Laurel as Top New Female Personality, a testament to her growing popularity. In 1975, she received a Tony Award nomination for her performance as Donna Lucia D'Alvadorez in Where's Charley?. Additionally, she appeared in the original Broadway production of Nine, playing the role of Guido Contini's mother.
Beyond her stage work, Elg also had a successful career in television. From 1980 to 1981, she played the role of Nicole Bonard/Olympia Buchanan, the wife of Asa Buchanan, on ABC's soap opera One Life to Live.
