Stefania's Professional Journey: From Acting to Directing
Stefania's journey in the entertainment industry began after graduating in Architecture, when she transitioned to acting and collaborated with renowned directors such as Pietro Germi, Bernardo Bertolucci, Peter Greenaway, and Dario Argento.
Her move to New York in the late 1970s marked a turning point in her career, as she acted in Andy Warhol's 'Bad' and later decided to shift her focus behind the camera, becoming a director.
Stefania's directorial debut was the film "Lontano da dove", co-written and co-directed with Francesca Marciano, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 1983. This was followed by her second feature film, "Un Paradiso di Bugie", released in 1997.
Throughout her career, Stefania has worked on numerous projects for Italian television networks, including MEDIASET, where she directed six feature films. She has also made a significant impact in the world of documentary filmmaking, creating reportages and documentaries for RAI and MEDIASET that focus on contemporary issues affecting women and young people.
Some of her notable documentary series include "Islam: stories of women", "Latin America: stories of women", "To be 20 years old in..." (broadcast in ten European countries between 2004-2005),and "So close so far :portraits in the suburbs". Additionally, she created the documentary "Schiaffo alla mafia" (A blow to the Mafia).
Stefania has also held prominent roles in the film industry, serving as the Artistic Director of Siena's Film Festival "Terra di Siena" from 2000-2002 and Managing Director of DGTV IESTV in 2010.
Currently, Stefania continues to write and direct programs, reportages, and documentaries for RAI and satellite channels such as RAI Sat Cinema World, Gambero Rosso Channel, and Sky. She also works as a journalist, contributing to popular women's magazines.
