Toshio Okumura, later known as Shintarō Katsu, was a multifaceted Japanese artist born on November 29, 1931. He was the son of Katsutoji Kineya, a renowned kabuki performer who was celebrated for his exceptional skills in nagauta and shamisen.
Katsu's younger brother, Tomisaburo Wakayama, was also an accomplished actor, and Katsu went on to marry actress Tamao Nakamura in 1962, with whom he had a son, Ryutaro Gan, who also followed in his father's footsteps and became an actor.
