Sherri Martel, a renowned American professional wrestler and manager, was born with the ring names Sherri Martel and Sensational Sherri. Her journey in professional wrestling commenced in the Mid South after undergoing rigorous training in Columbia, South Carolina.
As her career progressed, she joined the American Wrestling Association (AWA) in the mid-1980s, successfully claiming the AWA World Women's Championship on three occasions. Her remarkable feats in the late 1980s led her to join the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE),where she secured the WWE Women's Championship and played a crucial role as a manager for notable wrestlers such as Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and Shawn Michaels.
Martel's illustrious career continued to flourish as she made appearances in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during the 1990s. Notably, she acted as the manager for the tag team Harlem Heat in WCW. After departing WCW, she made sporadic wrestling-related appearances until her passing in 2007. Her final televised wrestling appearance was as a manager for Bobby Roode in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in September 2006.
In her personal life, Martel was married and divorced at least twice. Booker T gave her away at one of her weddings, and she had a son. She also lived in Tennessee with her husband Robert Schrull, where she assisted him in renovating homes.
Tragically, Sherri Martel passed away on June 15, 2007, at the age of 49, at her mother's residence in McCalla, Alabama, near Birmingham. An investigation revealed that she died of an overdose involving multiple drugs, including high levels of oxycodone. Her remains were cremated after her passing.
